An early but superbly preserved RAD Hewer by Karl Julius Krebs
Solingen. Earliest produced pieces had the 'beak' also stag covered, however
this proved both costly and easily damaged.
Accountability markings on ferrule .The Hewer was carried by both enlisted
men and officers in the early days of the Reich. Note burnishing remaining
in crevices of the crossguard.
Accountability number repeated on scabbard throat. The same number is also
stamped on all scabbard components, presumably as an aid to re-assembly
after maintenance
'Crown over K' emblem of the prestigious Krebs company. Note also the
'patent' statement and RAD acceptance stamp.
Note 'pebbling' in the 'Arbeit Adelt'-(Work Enobles) blade
etch. This etch can extend into the fuller of the polished blade.
Deeply incised and burnished circle and swirl pattern on upper scabbard
fitting-'918' accountability number is clearly visible on the apex of the
fitting
